Happy Groundhog Day! I often think of Groundhog Day as the quirky movie starring Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell but there really is a Groundhog Day and it really is celebrated every February 2nd. The story goes that when a groundhog (Punxsutawney Phil) emerges from its burrow February 2nd and can’t see its shadow, then spring will come early. If, however, the groundhog sees its shadow the winter weather will continue for six more weeks.
Well, today the groundhog saw its shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter. I, of course, saw my shadow as well and I could tell you that we are in for more winter. The big difference? I have to stick around to clean it up and deal with it, while Phil goes back to sleep in his burrow! Does that seem fair to you? At least I have my winter white coat!
