About this time of year I begin to miss something … oh yes … my ankles! After weeks of wearing boots and socks and leggings, I never see my ankles anymore. And I miss them. There is something so appealing about the footloose feeling of going without socks and heavy shoes and jackets and parkas. It’s a simple thing, really, just seeing an ankle.
This outfit has hopes of lighter days to come. At some point, we will be able to transition to spring, and though we are not out of the winter woods yet we can prepare to show some ankle soon with a cuffed pant and heel. It’s coming …

My middle school graduation outfit
My high school graduation outfit
What do I do when I sense change coming? I (like most of us) look for comfort in the places I know, the familiar. For me that is clothing. My clothes are my familiar friends; they bring me back to my expression of self, of who I am. So, upon preparing for the enormous events of my boys’ graduations, what did I do? I figured out what I was going to wear.
The clothes I selected had to be age and weather appropriate. For the middle school graduation (which came first), I chose to wear a colorful, spring skirt by JMcLaughlin, a stylized tee by Ted Baker London, and Vince Camuto nude pumps (great for elongating the leg!). For the high school graduation, I chose to wear my Prabal Gurung for Target dress, shoes, and necklace, which I featured here.
For several months I have been thinking about both my boys’ graduations: Cameron, from middle school, and Eric, from high school. Continue reading
As the weather warms and the daffodils burst onto the spring scene, I pass over my jeans for a lighter weight pant. In the past, that has meant a pair of khakis: cropped, long, bootcut or slim leg, khakis have been a spring staple. But I am bored with khakis this year, and I couldn’t find a pair that had the perfect fit. My solution: camo pants! I wear them the same way I would wear khakis, with a t-shirt and sandals, or in this case, nude pumps, and I am good to go. This outfit: camo pants by Madewell, v-neck tee by Splendid (recommended by Cupcakes and Cashmere…thank you, Emily!), and shoes by Vince Camuto, because every girl needs a pair of nude pumps.
