My blue and white faux fur coat has fast become my winter wardrobe staple. Not only because of its bold pops of color, but also because it keeps me warm beyond belief in these sub-zero temperatures. I took it out for a Sunday stroll, and paired it with this backpack-style bag for added texture and because I like combining the stripes and circles! Fashion, function, and faux – all of my essentials for a Happy New Year!

This weekend blew in the first snow and really cold winter temperatures. It was the perfect moment to bring out my faux fur coat by J.Crew/Exclusively for Net-A-Porter! There is nothing like wearing faux fur for super-warm coverage. It’s the next best thing to cozying up by the fire; faux fur is soft to the touch, luxurious to the eye, and comforting to the soul, knowing that you are dressing cruelty-free.
And best for me? This coat is so warm that I was able to pair it with my favorite lighter-weight white lace blouse from Maje! A perfect outing (with a hot chocolate on the side! ). Now I am ready for the season with my own substantial faux fur coat!

The weather cooled and I quickly pulled out my favorite Rebecca Taylor sweater; the one I have worn and loved for many years and featured here on TFIO. This sweater has a good story – I hunted it down to find the very last one at a Rebecca Taylor boutique in Atlanta after seeing a blogger I really admire wearing it. I love the color, the softness, and the texture – it’s warm enough to wear without an added jacket for chilly days before the real cold begins. Favorite things are favorites because they make you happy when you wear them, no matter how long you have owned them. In fact, they get better with age. This sweater traveled several states to find me and I feel we are destined to be together for a long time.

I took Lezli Salz-Bradley at her word when she told us that velvet was the fashion trend to watch for fall. My new electric blue velvet boots give every outfit just the right boost and make me want to dance! I will be wearing them as much as possible – with dresses, skirts, and pants. Add this smooth velvet fabric to your everyday wardrobe and watch everything you own, pop!
