How does that Rolling Stones song go? You can’t always get what you want – You can’t always get what you want – You can’t always get what you want – But if you try sometimes you just might find – You get what you need –

Sit down. I have a story for you. It began a week ago, on November 14th, with the release of Isabel Marant’s Collection For H&M. Actually, that’s not true … it started before that, when I interviewed Emilie-Rose, who told me that Isabel Marant was her favorite French designer, because she is “fashion-forward and innovative.” That conversation set the wheels in motion because at that moment I remembered that Isabel Marant was releasing a Collection in partnership with H&M on November 14th. I have tried several of these collaborations before, with Target – Phillip Lim, Prabal Gurung and Missoni – and have found some wonderful, original pieces, but I have also made a few mistakes and certainly paid the price for them – maybe not physically but certainly emotionally: In the long lines, the manic shoppers and the overall bad karma. I had no idea what this particular collaboration would entail, especially since Isabel Marant is so popular.

Growing up in Paris, I was always aware not only of fashion, but of shops and shopping. We live in a part of Paris that is very near the huge department stores, like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps. I have always been really girly, even from a young age. I went to an International bilingual school and looking back at it now, I wish I had been required to wear a uniform.
