Selena Gomez: “To Be You is to Be Strong”

Yes, I am a Selena Gomez fan. I, like the other 123 million-plus Instagram followers, feel a connection with her.  I like her honesty and her ability to acknowledge her vulnerability and to grow from it, especially as she has picked herself up from the perils of childhood fame. Last week Coach released its new Fall 2017 campaign and Selena Gomez is front and center as its face of the campaign. In addition, Gomez has collaborated with Coach and is about to launch an exclusive limited Coach x Selena Gomez collection, offering leather goods and accessories. Among the coveted items is the Selena Grace bag, co-designed by Gomez and Coach creative director Stuart Vevers, whom Gomez reports, “was just so open at figuring out our collaboration.” The bag features a hangtag with the singer’s signature, as well as a patch fastened inside the bag declaring: “To be you is to be strong.” Also embossed on the bag is another message from Gomez: “Love yourself first. I love it!

The Coach x Selena Gomez collection will be available for pre-order online beginning on August 14th, and will hit stores on September 1st

Mix it Up in The Spring

Photo: Lauren Hagerstrom

Photo: Lauren Hagerstrom – on location Reeves-Reed Arboretum

Last spring, I started mixing patterns; it is something that I continue to do because it keeps my outfit selection fresh and unpredictable.  It was a year ago that I wrote this and it still rings true  …

Stripes mix so well with a floral or printed skirt … don’t be afraid to try it this spring. You can even mix stripe on stripes, as long as you keep the stripes top and bottom different widths. For instance, if you have a wider stripe on the bottom then keep a skinny stripe on top. The key to mixing stripes with florals and prints and (even more) stripes is to make sure that they share one color in common. Top off with a sleek accessory and you have successfully mastered this casual-yet-chic look.

My striped sweater is getting new life with this printed skirt (for which I searched many months!); in this case, my top and bottom share two colors – black and white.

My look: sweater, August Silk; skirt, Karen Millen, sandals, Coach; necklace, Prabal Gurung for Target.

Tuesday Shoesday!

My go-to Coach sandals

My go-to Coach sandals

Yesterday was Tuesday Shoesday! This wave of warm weather is enticing me to expose my toes and find that pair of sandals that I can wear well into the sumer. I love these; super-simple but chic, with a bit of a heel that isn’t too high. I will be pulling them out often. I encourage you to do the same! #FavoriteThings

Cutie Culottes

Try culottes. First spotted for fall, this fashion trend is still going strong for spring and one that you can pull off! This pant that hits at the calf looks like a skirt but is actually a trouser. And you can find it in various fabrics and textures. High-end brand Tibi has beautiful and original culottes – but you don’t have to pay high-end prices to own a pair. I didn’t want to invest in culottes until I saw this pair at Zara for $60. And now I want to wear them all the time!

How would I style culottes? Since the pants are on the wide side, I suggest pairing them with a slim-fitting top and heel. And don’t forget to accessorize!

My outfit: culottes, Zara; top, Alice + Olivia; sandals Coach; and of course, pearls!

This Holiday, Turn to a Tuxedo

Turn to a tuxedo. Versatile and super-chic, tuxedo-dressing is a way to go sleek without being over-the-top dressy. And tuxedo dressing has moved way beyond the suit, with options and more creative ways than ever to incorporate tuxedo elements. In fact, a tuxedo need not be so formal – you can break it up to wear many different ways (I also wear my tuxedo blazer with jeans and a white tee). An added plus to tuxedo dressing? It moves from day to night with ease. Continue reading

A little floral goes a long way

P1040868With summer in full bloom, the chance to wear flowers is tempting. It seems that floral patterns are always en vogue, but to wear them successfully is a bit of a challenge. Good to remember that a little floral goes a long way.

Here’s to summer!

My look: pants, Gucci (bought at a consignment shop); t-shirt, Ted Baker; shoes, Coach; handbag, vintage Kate Spade
