Meet Angela, "Hair and Highheels"

Meet Angela: “Hairspray and Highheels”

Southern New Jersey is the birthplace of Hairspray and Highheels, a beauty and lifestyle blog with a mission to bring the latest beauty and fashion ideas to the everyday woman. Creator Angela describes herself as “just a girl, passionate about fashion and beauty, pushing the trends and challenging the norm.” Who also just happens to hoard nail polish! Although Angela grew up in Philadelphia, Southern New Jersey has been her home for the last seven years and she can tell you for sure about being a true Jersey Girl …

MKG: How did you fall in love with fashion and beauty products?

ANGELA: For as long as I can remember I have been playing in makeup. I remember wearing my mom’s Maybelline Great Lash as a five year-old (smeared all over my face!) and thinking that it was just the greatest.

MKG: What inspired you to start Hairspray and Highheels?

ANGELAI was spending hours and hours hanging out on makeup forums just to feed my addiction of talking about makeup. Most of my very close friends are male and they could care less about the hottest new trend in nail polish or how to contour so I’m sure they and a few girlfriends were tired of hearing me. Hairspray and Highheels began as a place to just let it all out. Continue reading

Hate dry skin? Try coconut oil!

The power of Coconut Oil

The power of Coconut Oil

When The Universe sends you messages, especially in threes, it’s a good idea to listen. I first heard about the benefits of coconut oil over the weekend when I was getting a pedicure. The woman next to me was saying that she started rubbing coconut oil on her feet, and they have been silky-soft ever since. Coconut oil locks in moisture without petroleum-based ingredients or chemicals. And coconut oil has benefits for diet, hair, and skin, because of its antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antifungal properties.  Continue reading

Do I keep beauty secrets? From you? Never …

IMG_5653Cosmetics industry veteran Andrea Robinson’s new book, “Toss the Gloss: Beauty Tips, Tricks & Truths for Women 50+,” has me thinking: do I keep beauty secrets from you? Never! Here are my tried-and-true beauty (and a few fashion) tips: I never leave home without my lipstick – CoverGirl #355; I try to wear color around my face (I recommend choosing colors that bring out the best in you – mine is always a cherry red); I keep a favorite pair of jeans at-the-ready at all times; For my face, I cleanse with an exfoliant and moisturize often during the day with Bobbi Brown and Josie Maran 100% Pure Argan Oil and at night with La Roche Posay; I always use WEN® cleansing conditioner (Pomegranate) on my hair. My go-to’s in my arsenal? A trusted dermatologist and tailor!

My secret to full eyebrows

My secret to full eyebrows? Rosana and color tinting

My secret to full eyebrows? Rosana and color tinting.

I have a secret to keeping my eyebrows full: Rosana. Rosana and color tinting. Growing up I always had dark, full eyebrows. I have Colombian blood and I inherited my dark, Latin brows. I had them through my 20s and into my early 30s but at some point I allowed someone to talk me into waxing them and that was a big mistake. What I didn’t know is that as you age, your eyebrows thin and the hair doesn’t always grow back. My eyebrows were shapely but had lost their fullness and I was convinced that I wouldn’t get that back. Continue reading
