Can we ‘Roar’ with The Granthams once more?

The cast of Downton Abbey, Season Four

Like me, you might have had your television tuned to PBS last night for the premiere of Season Four’s Downton Abbey. And like me, you waited, uncertain, to see how the show would go on after the incredibly sad demise of Matthew in a car crash the last few moments of Season Three.

Season Four starts six months after Matthew’s death. The year is 1922, ten years since Season One premiered with the sinking of The Titanic. Familiar faces returning, some surprises? Definitely. And welcome to the other member of The Grantham Household: the fashions of the times. I happily note the changes in the new fashions and I imagine we will continue to see the women dressed more comfortably and less constricted, with new elements of freedom and flair. I am looking forward to being transported to this era because something Downton Abbey does so well is allow us to go back in time and imagine ourselves in another place. It is this attention to detail that make the stories so real and bring the characters to life.

If you are watching with me, let’s see where the Downton Abbey road takes us and if we can Roar with the family once more.

  1. Even my husband is addicted to this show! I actually think this is the first time, in 21 years together, that we have watched something on tv together. Other than sporting events!Great story lines and even more salivating fashions!

    • That’s so fun to hear. Downton Abbey is addictive, that’s for sure. I wasn’t sure I would return after the end of last season, but after one episode I feel myself being pulled in. And the addition of color and a bit of frivolity to the fashion scene is definitely alluring. It was fun to see Lady Edith glowing – finally! xx Mel

  2. Did you see Lady Edith this week? Loved her dresses!! She was always quite the intellectual but I didn’t see her as a fashionista until this season. Love the show!

    • I did notice Lady Edith’s fashions this week! She is coming in to her own and experimenting with the 1920s fashions! Thank you, Ana, for your comments! xx Mel
