The love affair started as a result of a bout of insomnia. Somewhat dazed from hours of flipping television channels I discovered what was to become one of my all-time favorite products: WEN® Cleansing Conditioner.  I watched Chaz Dean, creator of WEN® , demonstrate the benefits of using a cleansing conditioner instead of shampoo – without detergents, without harsh chemicals, and without the lather. Soon I was hooked. I ordered WEN® and never looked back. In fact, shampoo has not touched my hair since 2010. In the early days of this blog, I interviewed Chaz Dean about why he created WEN®. This week my insomnia returned and I found myself flipping channels again. Seeing the updated version of the WEN® infomercial reminded me why I started and prompted me to re-post the interview. His is a great story. Here is that conversation  …

I, like many of us, am very sensitive about my hair. If I am having a bad hair day it is hard for me to think of anything else. And so a few years ago when I discovered WEN cleansing conditioner for my hair created by Chaz Dean, I started to view my hair in a whole new light. My hair began to feel softer and as my hair became bouncier, I felt lighter and better about myself. It’s as if I turned back the clock and gave myself the gift of younger-looking hair. I know I’m not alone. Many people are waking up to the joy of WEN hair care. Chaz has a vision to help more people feel like me by creating chemical-free, healthy products for our hair. Here is Chaz …

CD: The first thing that most people notice the first time they use WEN is how soft and shiny their hair is. With continuous use they say their hair has never been more manageable, healthy, soft and shiny. It just gets better and better.

MKG: What is your vision for the future of WEN?

CD: My vision for WEN is to keep educating, motivating, and empowering people by enhancing their natural beauty.

MKG: What is something about you that most of us wouldn’t know?

CD: Most people know I travel a lot; what they don’t know is that I bring my own blanket and “My Pillow.” ~ Chaz Dean

Chaz Dean is dedicated to helping each of us feel and look our best. I think I’m lucky we met

I have told tales about my favorite hair cleansing conditioner: Wen, by Chaz Dean. I have an addendum to my story. Originally, I told you that Wen is a one-step process for your hair: cleansing, conditioning, de-tangling and deep conditioning with one product. But I have learned there is more to it. In actuality, it is a two-rinse (with the cleansing conditioner) and two-product process (adding a styling creme). I have been wearing my hair a little longer, and I noticed recently that it hasn’t been as shiny. When I spoke to the Wen Studio to find out why, I learned that I wasn’t using the product properly and correctly. I bought the 32-oz bottle of the cleansing conditioner and have been using too much per cleanse. For my hair length, I should be using fewer pumps: 12 pumps for the initial rinse and 12 pumps for the leave-in/rinse for a total of 24 pumps (I used 24 pumps twice – for each rinse – which was too much, leaving my hair more flat than shiny!), with a dime-sized amount at the ends as a leave-in conditioner. I also learned that I need to add another dime-sized amount of the leave-in styling creme after using the cleansing conditioner. Without that, my hair will not have the shine and shimmer I am looking for because the styling creme completes the process and protects your hair. So, WEN is most effective as a two-product process and it is important to use the proper number of pumps according to the size of your container.

I found WEN customer service to be extremely helpful in navigating this process and explaining what to do, and it is so worth it for the most luxurious and softest hair I have ever known! Learn from my mistake; If you decide to try WEN, take time to follow the steps. I think you will love the results, as I do. Then, all of us can be Wen girls!
