Okay, full disclosure: I do not blow dry my hair. I do not own a blow dryer. When I get my hair cut at the salon, I don’t wait to dry my hair, choosing instead to leave with wet hair (which is great in the warm-weather months, but is challenging in the winter!). Why I am like this I can’t say for sure, but I guess I prefer a natural look, and I guess, too, that I don’t like to take time out to fuss with my hair. But that was before I learned about the magic of the blowout. And now I am keeping an open mind. I recently noticed a blowout salon in my town, Blow In Blow Out, and I decided to see for myself what is behind this growing trend. That is just what I did. The good news? When I finished, I was pleased to recognize myself in the mirror; just a more styled version of me.

Tara Galatt is the owner and proprietor of Blow In Blow Out. My ears perk up when I see or hear stylist/designer Rachel Zoe on television. I have been a fan of her work for a long time and there is no doubt that she is an influential force in fashion. I caught her today on ABC’s Good Morning America discussing two new ventures: the unveiling of her Fall 2013 collection at New York’s Fashion Week, and the launch of her new company, Dream Dry. The concept of Dream Dry is simply to provide clientele on-the-spot (40 minutes or less) dream blowouts by a team of professionals. Led by Rachel Zoe and her partner, Robin Moraetes, Dream Dry salon is set to launch this week in New York City with plans for upcoming locations around the country. Ms. Zoe explained that there are several classic-styled looks from which to choose, each inspired by her favorite icons, including Brigitte Bardot and Audrey Hepburn.

Hair styling and makeup application complete the fashion picture for Rachel Zoe. As she said this morning, “If the hair is wrong your whole outfit is garbage!”

Taking the blow-dry concept to another level with personalized styling salons is a growing trend and I think we will be hearing more about it.
